"The pressure sensor of the present invention is also useful for the
transport industry. Weighbridge systems incorporating a pressure sensing mat
or pad could measure the load distribution of the vehicle by measuring the load
at each wheel, rather than just the total load of the vehicle as measured by
current weighbridges. Portable weighbridges, for example comprising a pressure
sensing mat which can be rolled up, are now possible using the present
invention. By laying a pressure sensing strip across a road a traffic census
can be carried out measuring, for example, tyre width, load wheel spacing,
spacing between vehicles, speed and density of traffic. A sensor can also be
incorporated into a dummy head to measure the distribution of impact pressures
for vehicle safety testing."
